この時期になると思い出すのが高校生の時、彼女とのXmasです。
彼女に、「Xmas、プレゼント何がいい？」と聞かれ、
私は背伸びして、「ネクタイがほしい」と言いました。
Xmas近くの日曜日、『名古屋三越百貨店』に行きました。
当時、ファッションはDCブランドブームでバブル絶頂期、若年層の買い物は『名古屋三越』という認識でした。
ネクタイ売り場を目の前にした時、お客さんで混雑している中、一際目立つ店員さんいました。
彼女が先に目にして、「カッコイイ」とキャッキャッしていたのを思い出します。
私もタレントさんみたいに見えました。
売り場に入り、どれがいいか分からずにいると、あの男性店員さんが「どんな感じのものをお探しですか？」と声をかけてくれました。
彼女が私を見る目と全く違う、恋する乙女の目をしている。
当時、彼女は今でもカッコイイが吉川晃司氏や舘ひろし氏の大ファンで、この店員さんの雰囲気が2人を2で割ったような方でした。
見た目も背が高く、ダブルのスーツを着こなし、香水のいい香りがしました。
店員さんは親切に対応してくれて、
「プレゼントですか？」と、聞き彼女が私へのXmasプレゼントと答えました。
すると、店員さんが私に、「高校生ですか？」と聞いてくれて、返事をしました。
店員さんが、「若い方で店頭にあるものなら、『ニコル』か『Mr.junko』あたりかなぁ」と言い案内してくれました。
また、「スーツかジャケットはどんな感じ？」と聞かれ、黒が流行りということもあり、「黒のカジュアル系ジャケットです」と答えました。
当時、私はファッション雑誌で見ていて好きなブランドがあり、店員さんに「『PASHU』や『ficce』はありますか？」と聞いたところ、店員さんが「お目が高い」と答えてくれました。
「残念ながら、店頭にはないんですよ」と、対応してくてたのを覚えています。
高校生ですから、そんなにかしこまったスーツも着ることもなく、また似合わない。
なんせ、背伸びしたい年頃でネクタイすらも似合わないことを理解していませんでした。
それでも、店員さんは「若いけど冒険してみる気ある？」と聞いてくれて、「どういうことですか？」と私が聞くと、チョット遊び心のある『イッセイ・ミヤケ』のネクタイを案内してくれました。
確かに、生地感のある楊柳系で黒ベースだから、カジュアル系でも合わせやすそうなネクタイでした。
値段も高校生でも頑張れば出せる金額のものを提案してくれました。
私も気に入り、彼女に「これでいい」と言い決めました。
包装もブランドパッケージにリボンを付けてくれて、いいプレゼントとなりました。
しかし、その後の彼女のはしゃぎ方に頭を抱える事となり、苦いmasとなったのを今でも覚えています。
バブル期に出合った、あの店員さんは今でもカッコイイのかなぁと思い出します。

I'm a high school student, so I don't wear very formal suits, and they don't suit me well.

He suggested a price that even a high school student could afford if he worked hard.
